Strengthening the Social Economy in Western Hungary - A Regional Success Story
2025-05-26
The process began with a comprehensive survey and stakeholder mapping to identify key actors and challenges in the local social and solidarity economy (SSE). Based on this foundation, PBN launched the West-Transdanubian SSE Platform, bringing together actors from the quintuple helix: public institutions, businesses, academia, civil society, and environmental stakeholders.
Two regional stakeholder meetings were held in early 2025. These meetings facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by 8 founding organizations, demonstrating strong commitment to cooperation and platform-building. In addition, several small-scale project proposals were co-created, laying the groundwork for future local actions.
A major success is that, thanks to the platform’s efforts and visibility, SSE support has been included as a dedicated action in Szombathely’s revised 10-year city strategy. This is a significant step forward, showing how local-level cooperation can influence municipal policy planning.
