Second Workshop on Circular Construction: “Mastering Circular Building Design”

The online session brought together representatives from municipalities, associations, universities, and international initiatives to exchange insights on how circular design principles can be embedded in both new construction and restoration projects.

Highlights included:

  • Eurokom Association & Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria presented a case study on adaptive technologies for urban clusters, showcasing integrated solutions that combine soil, water, energy, and nature-based approaches to improve ecosystem services.

  • University of Calabria emphasized the value of reviving traditional earthen architecture, underlining how natural materials such as adobe and clay can ensure cultural continuity while promoting sustainable, low-impact building practices.

  • City of Hamburg introduced the REcube project, which trains a new generation of professionals in the sustainable reuse of post-war reinforced concrete heritage, combining education, workshops, and innovative conservation approaches.

The discussions confirmed that circular construction is not only about technical innovation but also about respecting cultural heritage and reshaping the way we think about sustainable living. The event closed with an interactive Q&A, reinforcing the shared commitment to act today for a better future.
