OD4Growth transnational meeting in Liepaja

The OD4Growth study visit in Liepāja brought together project partners to explore the city’s innovative use of open data for sustainable growth and urban development. Over two days, participants gained insights into Liepāja’s strategies, initiatives, and cultural identity, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The first day began at the Liepāja City Council, where Executive Director Ronalds Fricbergs introduced the city’s strategic vision and commitment to innovation. This was followed by an engaging presentation from Mārtins Ābols, Head of the Development Department, who provided an overview of Liepāja’s transformation and its focus on economic development. Kārlis Beihmanis then shared insights into the city’s Climate Mission, emphasizing the integration of energy data and sustainability efforts.
In the afternoon, participants learned about Liepāja’s journey toward becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2027, highlighting the role of culture in driving urban development.
The second day began with the partners’ meeting. This session provided an opportunity to discuss project updates and align future activities. Following the meeting, Madara Letinska and Māris Dubrovskis shared a comprehensive presentation on spatial data and GIS tools, showcasing their role in supporting urban planning and decision-making.
The study visit concluded with a dynamic discussion about potential pilot project ideas, enabling participants to envision practical applications of open data within their regions collaboratively.
