- Circular Economy and Sustainability: PBN's Interactive Mission at Researchers' Night
Recognizing the importance of the green and circular economy, PBN is implementing numerous international projects in this field, contributing targeted actions to the local ecosystem’s sustainable energy and climate protection action plan within the framework of EU initiatives.
In 2024, we again joined the Researchers' Night event series, where members of the local community could participate in an interactive mission focused on sustainability. The event, held on September 27th under the title "Saving the Future," emphasized waste recycling, the circular economy, and environmental protection, attracting over a hundred attendees.
At the various stations, sustainability, circular economy, and waste management topics were presented from different perspectives:
- At the am-LAB centre, participants learned how digital technologies contribute to more sustainable production and how PET plastics can be recycled and reused through 3D printing, thanks to the Refilamer startup team, who joined us for the evening.
- At at.home, a knowledge quiz made the program more engaging. Competing against our humanoid robot, visitors could test their knowledge and identify potential gaps in a fun sustainability quiz.
- At PBN’s environmental protection stations, attendees explored the causes and solutions for environmental issues, discovered energy-saving practices, and cleaned contaminated water using natural materials, highlighting the importance of water protection and purification. Additionally, with the help of artificial intelligence, they could design sustainable cities of the future.
- At STKH Sopron and Térsége Környezetvédelmi és Hulladékgazdálkodási Nonprofit Kft.’s outdoor booth, children sorted various types of waste selectively, then learned about proper waste separation and recycling through a demonstration.
- With support from Falco Zrt., we extended the event with an outdoor pavilion, which included their booth. At this station, participants could observe how construction waste and discarded wooden furniture from households can be recycled.
Thanks to the great interest in the event, it provided an excellent opportunity to showcase PBN's activities related to the circular economy, sustainability, and awareness-raising to the participating residents and companies.
Waste management and recycling were central topics, aligning with the
3F GREEN MODEL project’s focus. Attendees sorted different types of waste and, with STKH’s guidance, learned how waste can serve as a valuable secondary raw material for new products.
Under the
Decorator and
KARMA projects, in cooperation with Falco Zrt., we demonstrated how construction waste can be reused or recycled through advanced technological solutions.
As part of the
Smart Circuit project, training sessions were also held with five local companies, where they learned how the digital technologies showcased at the am-LAB centre can promote sustainable production and how these technologies contribute to improving production efficiency and reducing costs. Additionally, they gained in-depth knowledge about the principles of the circular economy from Falco Zrt. experts, particularly on possibilities for reusing wood waste.
Two projects related to awareness-raising and education were highlighted at the event, each with its own station. Under the
Circes project, a platform on circular economy and design was presented, allowing schoolchildren to try its interactive elements. In the
eTOM AT-HU project, we introduced various creative educational games related to sustainability, presenting different scientific fields and developing multiple skills simultaneously. Kindergarten and elementary school children had the chance to test these games at the station.
Through this event, we aimed to demonstrate the practical applications of the principles of sustainability and the circular economy through the perspectives of our projects, while also encouraging the local community’s commitment to environmental protection.
